If you were to describe love, most people would say that it’s a feeling, a strong attraction, and a sense of belonging. I am not saying that these are not part of love, but love is a verb – its what you do. Love is an action. It is not enough to say I love you to someone and do nothing that backs it up. Action does speak louder than words. As a father and grandfather, I have discovered that more is caught than taught. It was like my children could not hear what I was saying because my actions were drowning my words out. Children can spot a phony a mile away. I don’t know what it is about children, but they can sense hypocrisy and duplicity very easily.

A baby sitter once looked disgustingly at the litter box and asked the young boy, “Does your mother do this?” The boy replied, “No, that’s the cat’s.” Funny as it was, it made me think that love is, well, cleaning out the litter box. Love is doing the dishes, taking out the trash, and vacuuming the living room. (By the way, she does draw the line at my doing laundry…something about pink T-shirts.) What I was trying to teach my children and my grandchildren was that love is not just hugs, kisses, cards, and flowers. Its not even saying, “I love you.” These are a part of love, but love is a verb. It is deeds in action. Even though it has taken me awhile, I have finally recognized that love is a verb – its what you do. Even if its cat “do do.”

I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1 (NIV)

The UNI-CUB can be seen on display in a video Honda has published YouTube .
The UNI-CUB is for the most part, little more than a seat sitting on a stand that sits on top of an omnidirectional wheel. For the user, a driver simply sits then carries little in the direction we want to go. Interestingly, the vehicle has no place to put your hands, so those who are demonstrating that both are holding on to something else, like a book or file folder or keep them sitting on top of your lap. The Times , says the new car looks like a trash compactor rolling and wonder why anyone needs one. There is also the unsettling feeling that if the UNI-CUB is an obstacle and have to stop quickly, the passenger is ejected into the ground.
The Journal go to the UNI-CUB as a practical solution to move indoors or outdoors, the possibility of replacing short hops in a car or bicycle. They suggest that the price for the vehicle, which is not yet for sale anywhere, is likely to be in the range of $ 9000 as is the Segway.
Endgadget states that the maximum speed for the new vehicle is about four miles per hour, which is about walking speed and says that Honda is reportedly testing the new vehicle in the Japan National Museum of Engineering. And once that is completed, barring unforeseen circumstances, the device is expected to go on sale for the first time in Japan, then in other countries as the company deems appropriate.
A

of the most impressive features of the UNI-CUB is its ability to move instantaneously in any direction. If the rider leans to the left, the vehicle moves to the left without having to first use, ie moves sideways. The company says in the video is to allow full freedom of movement.
Of course, nobody can say with certainty whether the UNI-CUB will be a hit with consumers, but based on initial reactions, it seems doubtful, despite the progress made by Honda in the creation the new vehicle is likely to live.

My husband and I recently traveled to Nashville, Tennessee for a business training event he needed to attend. We went a day early to have some extra time for sightseeing. I haven’t been to Music City in years, so I was unsure which hotels and restaurants in our price range would deliver a good experience.

In circumstances like these, I recommend TripAdvisor. This website features travelers’ reviews that help you determine which tourism-related businesses care about their customers. Review a few pages of comments on the hotels you’re considering, and look for trends in the reviews. If several customers say the hotel is noisy or its breakfast is great, factor those remarks into your lodging selection. A hotel that may have been great a year ago could have gone downhill since then, so pay close attention to the dates of the reviews. You can get reservation price quotes from hotel websites and multiple other sources directly from a TripAdvisor hotel review page like this one.

TripAdvisor’s resources don’t end with reviews of places to stay. You can also find comments on restaurants and tourist attractions such as museums, zoos and tours.

TripAdvisor users rate hotels, restaurants and attractions on a scale of one to five, with higher numbers reflecting more positive feedback. The website combines the scores to rank locations from the most to least popular for each city.

I’ve used TripAdvisor to plan numerous vacations and found it to be a reliable source of information. In 2011, my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Maui, and I planned all of our travels. TripAdvisor led us to a great multi-story condo building in Lahaina right on the beach at an affordable price–I probably never would have found that spot on my own.

Occasionally, I do disagree with other customers’ ratings. While this happens most often with restaurant reviews, TripAdvisor did lead me to a bad motel in 2011. Reviews of an Iowa location called it “clean” and “a great place to stay,” but when we arrived, those adjectives did not apply. The place had gone way downhill in the several months since the reviews had been written. In my own review after our stay, I said, “It was like a bad ’70s bowling alley…scary!”

Be sure to add your own feedback to TripAdvisor after your vacation. This helps keep information current and scores more accurate. You may also want to rank restaurants and attractions in the town where you live.

Are you a TripAdvisor user? If not, what’s your go-to source for trip-planning information?

What are the genealogy and ancestry? One of the first lessons

homeschooling can be a simple report on ancestry and genealogy. In genealogy research techniques to the report, the young homeschooler will be better equipped to find facts about his or her ancestors. If there is a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints close, some members may be able to help the church and has compiled a genealogical database of large size.
The Search for the Illusive Kindred
<p Often people use the information from a family Bible or other record to start a search. Sometimes the older members of the family can provide key information. Most novice genealogists use free sites like Rootweb.com, to find out about their ancestors.
While each site is a little different, usually gets the name of a person in the search box (s) for a list of possibilities. Not all results are applied, therefore, its homeschooler will have to be a detective and use of other tracks. When Thomas Hudson looked, I have more than 50 results, and use other clues to narrow the field.
In my case, I knew he died in Wisconsin. Often, dates of birth or death and / or sites can help. Ask your young apprentice list of relevant information and use it to filter the search results. This is a very valuable lesson in researching homeschooling for your child.
 using information
<p An interesting project is the story of a timeline. By placing the ancestors in the timeline, your little one can understand what their lives were like. Did they serve in war, as the Civil War or the Vietnam War? Did they live in an epoch, as the Prohibition era or during the search for women's suffrage? Using this information, your child can write real stories and / or fictional.
A useful resource to find ancestral information is the U.S. census. For the young student, the census can reveal more than genealogy. A copy of the original census page often reveals what the letter looked like at that time. For example, many writers use the old cursive style and wrote the first s series a double s as a f. ( Jesse that seemed Jefse .) See article by J. Sabina Murray Amberskyline.com for more tips on reading old documents (See Resources for web link).
Have your homeschooled student

use census information to write a story. Check out who the ancestors were neighbors and include them in the story. Does the ancestor living in a boarding house or a farm? It was the neighbor of a rich banker or a worker?
Records , Layout, and other lessons
<p frequent types of home education by teaching more than one subject multitasking. Genealogy is a workhorse! These are some of the lessons:

Records

. It is vital for a genealogist (even an amateur) maintain clear records of where and when he or she found the information

Layout: From the plot of the standard family tree to a detailed timetable, a genealogist uses diagrams often used by business professionals

. creative writing and composition

:. Since the drafting of reports made to the creation of works of fiction, a young apprentice is found an abundance of opportunities to write

Mathematics

: See the Guide About.com ‘s genealogy (Resources) for information about the inconsistencies in the dates. For example, the French had their own calendar from 1793 to 1805. The calculation of the age of a person he was when he died is a good math project. Remember to count each extra day of leap year

Stories

: There are several lessons of history that link to genealogy. In my case, two of the children of Thomas Hudson fought in the Civil War. Harvey died of smallpox, which was common during the war. How did your family history?
a variety of stories may interest your young homeschooler. What clothing trends were popular during different generations and how the politics of the time they affected? What was the standard mode of transportation? A href class=”link interlink” rel=”&content_type=theme&content_type_id=1605″ href=”http://voices.yahoo.com/theme/1605/photo.html” title=”photography”> the photo amateur can investigate the reasons why no one smiled at old photos.
Conclusion: Towards a career Researching family history

– Genealogy – can fit very well with education classes at home. In general, many skills learned during the project are career oriented. Encourage your child to hone their interviewing skills while researching the facts. Organizing and maintaining accurate records are essential to most careers, and to project this. Your child at home may consider genealogy as a career choice

from an image of the Census, 1870

Family Search website (see Resources) has an image of the page showing Thomas Hudson and his wife. There are several examples of possible lessons that educate at home here.
Records

: name registration web site {U.S. Census, 1870> Wisconsin> Walworth> Hudson (Lyon)}, the name of the web site owner (Church of Jesus Christ of Saints Last Days), the data entry (not available), and access date (May 10, 2012).
History of Writing: Note the double s in the word of Massachusetts on line 13

. Neighbors

and occupations: TK Hudson was a shoemaker. Their neighbors were a blacksmith and a printer. Another neighbor was a jeweler.
Mathematics

: whether TK was 63 on July 29, 1870 (top of the page), so, when were you born? His wife? Since they were born in the state of New York, NY the census of that year should give the names of his parents and birthplaces.
 Resources Amberskyline.com

Due to the reduced working hours and dismissals my family income has been halved. When you bring home half of what you need for basic daily living, life is a struggle. There is much that can be reduced. After basic needs are not met. My husband worked extra work during the holiday season. And’m finding ways to make some money online. But we have less than we need for our family budget.

is difficult when the budget is money to the bone of a bear. So besides trying to increase our monthly income also decreased the cost .. Once we had digital cable, more than 4 TVs. We canceled the service. And for 6 months used regular television. We recently received a package in the cable that came with the phone and the Internet. Now pay less for 3 of what once made for the cable alone. We have digital cable only in the living room. Extensions and free basic channels in the bedrooms. We moved from our house to an apartment which includes water and gasheat in the rent.
Both my husband and I were paying for health insurance. I canceled my health insurance part I had not used. This brought back $ 100.00 per month in our budget. I can shop at thrift stores. I often find new items new to our home for a few dollars. I can keep track of what I had paid full price and record the difference as a saving. I once saw a piece for $ 60.00 45 China at a thrift store. I thought it was a bit much for the second hand. One day he said to check out a church sponsored the clothing pantry. There found another piece of 45 to lead China.
Single mothers who want to further their education beyond high school have many opportunities. There are grants for single mothers that will help pay for college costs. Most often these grants do not have to be paid back. These grants can be found by doing a little research and checking educational sources to find out what is available.

TEACH Grant

Single moms who are interested in pursuing a teaching degree may qualify for a TEACH grant. The TEACH grant is a federal grant that encourages students to become teachers. Students must commit to teaching in a low-income area for at least four years as an elementary or high school teacher. If the fulfillment of the grant is not followed through the amount of the grant will have to be repaid. Individuals, who are interesting in teaching, should put a lot of thought into their plans after graduation before applying.

Pell Grants

Pell grants are funded by the federal government. The grant is not a loan so single mothers do not have to concern themselves on how to pay the funding back. The grants are awarded to students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree. The award is based on a person’s financial need. There are some limits on the maximum amount that a single mother can receive during an academic year. Students cannot be convicted of any type felony to receive government assistance. A person can now only receive a Pell grant for a total of 6 years. Students interested in applying for the Pell grant can do so by filling out the student aid application. These applications are usually free to students.

Institutional Grants

Institutional grants are offered by the college or university the student wishes to attend. People interested in applying for these grants have to contact the college directly. Many of these grants are given on a first come basis or financial need. Most students are required to have a certain GPA to receive the grant. There is usually a deadline to apply for institutional grants.

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

If you are a child of a person who was killed in the Iraq or Afghanistan war, you are eligible to receive this grant. Individuals must have been a student at the time their parent or guardian lost their life in the war. The student must also be under the age of 24 years old in order to receive the grant award. Students are eligible to receive the maximum amount. The amount is usually the same as the Pell grant award.

Federal Work Study (FWS) Grant

A federal work study (FWS) grant is awarded by the government. The FWS awards students with part-time employment to aid in financing their educational costs. Students are placed in various areas of the school in order to work to pay for their education. Most students are place in areas such as the library, cafeteria, admissions office and other school offices. Hourly wages for the program has to meet the federal minimum wage.

Sitting at the far end of the concrete wall, with my legs dangling off the edge, I’m staring ahead intently towards the narrow valley. It extends forward nearly endlessly, suddenly transforming into the wide hills that surround me. In reality, I’m not staring at the plants, trees, or the valley, or even the hills. In this moment, I pay no attention to anything of physical form; the wall I’m resting on provides the perfect two feet of hard space necessary to escape from the tangible world: to dream. In my head I once again debate leaping forward into the valley below, perhaps taking the form of a bird and flying until I reach paradise, or maybe I’ll become a monkey, grab hold of the branches on my way down, and make my way to the troop where my new furry friends await. But I can’t fly, and there are no monkeys here.

There is always more to think about. This particular session has lasted well over half an hour, and I’ve physically felt every passing minute, a very real, constant wrenching in my gut. Not pain, not pleasure, the feeling is just there, always. Time happens to be among the few living things which refuses to forget about me, and I appreciate her for this, while secretly acknowledging the lethality of her proximity.

As I’m thinking of all the moments I’ve spent with Time, suddenly there is an abundance of rustling noises coming from behind me. The silence has been broken by this disturbance, and I turn my head back. in the direction of the scattered trees at my rear, attempting to catch glimpse of an animal. Perhaps a squirrel or a bird; the caliber of the noise was not large. I survey the area, and sure enough, standing there among a cluster of saplings is a tiny brown dog, almost entirely camouflaged by merit of the color of its fur and the abundance of dead leaves. It’s clearly staring in my direction, but its body does not project a reaction of fight, or even flight, although it should be clear to any animal as tiny as this one that I could be a formidable adversary. Surprisingly, it begins to walk closer towards the wall; I analyze its movements carefully. Its confidence is unmistakable, but its curiosity, obvious. With my day dream broken, and my own wonder of the creature growing, I turn around completely, and while gripping the wall tightly, lower myself enough to kick off and land a couple of feet away from it.

I close in on it slowly, and can appreciate that its delicate little frame and small but bulgy eyes give it an amusing look. With all that call this forest, hills, and valley home, one can only wonder how such a miniscule animal manages to survive here, much less keep a bold attitude. Perhaps it’s been fed by someone or something else, kept in life support until recently. Here it is now in front of me, certainly looking for help. After staring at each other for some time, I decide it is healthy and friendly enough to approve reaching down and picking it up, so I place it into my arms to examine it closer. It’s a he. The little thing is more muscular than expected, though that isn’t saying much given its bony appearance. He seems considerate enough with my presence, and has not made a single noise beyond its prior rustling of leaves. Perhaps we’ll grow to understand each other after all, despite the sudden acquaintance. I decide to name the dog Woody, a tribute to his appearance and uncanny similarity to that of the wooden saplings next to which I first spotted him.

So I grab Woody in a tight, safe hold, turn around, and make my way to the far edge of the concrete wall. I reach the narrow steps I had long grown accustomed to avoiding, climb them carefully until I’m at the top, and settle down at my favorite section. I get comfortable and stare at the valley, just as before, only now with some company. The dog seemingly appreciates this enough, and he becoming visibly sleepy, blinking slowly and lowering his head. It’s interesting how light seems to cause his eyes to twinkle as they close; it looks as if small watery tears form after every blink.

The atmosphere has clearly changed as it is evening now, and the sun is beginning to set among the valley, beyond the hills. I feel as if Time would be proud, but I can’t say for sure, because as I’m staring into the mesmerizing colors of the sky, I notice she is absent from this moment. The view in front of me is beautiful, and I can’t deny that it is infinitely much more so in the presence of a new companion.

Today, I caught up with Jvictor Black, the author of The Sorcerer’s Mask, and had the wonderful opportunity to talk with him more about his book and journey to becoming an author. He is a fresh face on the literary scene, but no stranger to journalism. I hope you find his interview enlightening.

First, I’d like to know where are you from James?

Born in Alexandria, Louisiana. I’m a military brat so I have lived in a number of places. But I call Concord, N.C., home.

When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing in college at Barber-Scotia College. My major was Mass Communications/Journalism

What inspired you to write your first book?

It actually was born out of a short story that I wrote for one of my college classes. One of my instructors asked the class to develop a modern twist on a story we were reading about, of all things, birth control. After reading my story, he said I should think about developing it. It sort of remained on my back burner of things to do for years until I left the journalism field. Finally, I got the time to sit down and work on it and the rest is history.

Do you have a specific writing style that helped you develop your story?

I’m not sure that I can say I have a definite style. I do try to make things visual and very descriptive and that helps me bring the story to life.

How did you come up with the title?

My intention for my characters in the book was for them to be misleading or more than they appeared to be on the surface. While describing what I wanted to a friend, the term two faced came up and I played off that with really nothing sounding particularly right. Then, I thought of my characters as having masks and Sorcerer’s Mask just jumped out from that.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes. Men can be victims of heart break as easily as women. I think everyone has a first heartbreak in life whether or not it was your first love or last love.

Is this message based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

As a journalist, you learn to watch and listen to people very carefully. The events in people’s lives make them and all of us really react in different ways. I find this amazing. No two people react the same way in similar situations. However, the categories or ways in which to react are limited. Fight or flight. Sad or Angry, happy? It’s always remarkable.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

That’s tough. I don’t really think I have a favorite writer. I enjoy James Patterson and John Sanford because of the action attached to their characters. Teri Woods and Toni Morrison write so well from the heart. I think I try to cross the two genres or mix things up and have characters who are real world or relatable to people.

What current projects are you working on?

Right now getting The Sorcerer’s Mask into as many hands as possible. Developing exposure. It is really true that marketing a book is harder than writing a book.

As far as support, who do you feel has supported you the moist, aside from family members?

A dear friend, Susan Hamm. She kept asking me “Where’s this book you keep talking about?” and “When are you going to publish It?” and “You really need to do something!” She just really motivated me to see my dream through.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Well, It’s my first book so there is doubt. More so on whether or not people will understand what I’m trying to convey. If people see the picture I’m trying to paint with words. Hopefully, the change will come in the form of better writing, growing as a writer and improving, which is every writer’s challenge.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learned, I don’t know, as much as I thought I did. Writing for a newspaper is far different than writing fiction. Organization and attention to detail are very important. Readers can pick up on the smallest mistake, which is good. It helps to keep writers on their toes, so to speak.

Well, I am sure that our readers enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about you and your work. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

First, reading is really fundamental. Get involved in your children’s any child’s reading efforts. Reading is the door of opportunity and if we don’t pass this one and most important fact along to our children then they are doomed to failure. Secondly, I hope everyone enjoys “The Sorcerer’s Mask” and please feel free to comment on the book in all the social media sites. By all means, please tell your friends and family to read the book.

Where can your books be found?

Currently it is online at Amazon Books.
